Family Voice Peterborough is very pleased to announce the introduction of our School’s Offer. In our capacity as the local parent-carer forum we have a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the area of SEND and we are therefore in a good position to work with schools to enable them to meet their statutory obligations to children with SEND and their families. Our vision for the school’s offer is to support schools to build trusting relationships between home and school. This will lead to greater co-production between the educational setting and the parent-carer community. We endeavour to achieve this through the following package:

Meet and Greet Sessions: as part of our offer will come into your setting for either individual coffee morning sessions or as part of a group package in which case this will be one per half term. We will work with you to set up, assist in advertising and provide support at the coffee mornings. We can provide themed coffee mornings that are based on the particular needs of the demographic population at your setting. We aim to use these session to provide a supportive environment for parent carers to decrease feelings of isolation whilst simultaneously providing information that leads to greater empowerment, self-efficacy and resilience.

Parent Training: Family Voice Peterborough has a highly trained team of professional trainers who have a great understanding of the local demographics of the population in Peterborough and the particular needs of parents with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We can provide a full or bespoke package for individual settings that will be based on the particular needs of their population. Our training includes:

Parent Participation Workshop - This is a one-day workshop designed to give parent carers an overview of the principles behind parent participation.

The Expert Parent Programme - The EPP is a parent carer empowerment programme that is designed to help families understand how to navigate the NHS.

Behaviours that Challenge Workshop- This CPFT course is aimed at parents who have children that may be exhibiting challenging behaviour due to difficulties with attention and/or social communication.

SEND Information Report Service: as part of our package the dedicated parent carer forum co-ordinator and parent representatives will meet with your settings SENCO and review your current SEND Policies and/or SEND Information report and advised on areas that could benefit from improvement. We can help advise on content to ensure your setting is compliant with the SEN Code of Practice and the Children’s and Families Act 2014 and help schools to showcase the dedication, enthusiasm and innovation that is taking place in their settings for children with SEND. When this service is used in conjunction with our training packages we will work together to promote co-production between parent carers and the school to endeavour that going forward this is a sustainable model.

The above services are available as individual services or they can be purchased as a package. It is more cost effective for FVP to deliver a whole package that will spread out throughout an academic year. What this would look like is that a member of our parent rep team would host a meet and greet event once per half term amounting to 6 in an academic year. These events typically last between 1 1⁄2 to 2 hours and will be themed around the needs and demographics of your parent-carer community. Within the full package you will also get 20 hours of either a staff member or suitably qualified parent rep to review and consult with your educational setting on their SEND policy and SEND Information Report and facilitate co-production with the parent-carer community. This equates to a whole day per term. We will also provide one of our team of expert trainers to deliver three parent training courses throughout the academic year to meet the needs of your community. This can either be one of each of the courses we have advertised or any combination that meets your needs. We are also in the process of developing some in-house training for professionals so please contact us to discuss this if this is something that you would like to learn more about.
