Sharing below on behalf of caring together

Good morning,

Please see below for a few opportunities for carers which might be of interest:

Energy webinar

Through our carer helpline we know that the cost of energy is something of real concern for many carers across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Peterborough. Caring Together have therefore linked up with National Energy Action (NEA) who are the national fuel poverty charity in England. NEA have offered to run a webinar specifically for carers aged 18+ (whether they care for an adult or a child) on Thursday 6th October from 10-11:30am on Zoom. There is more information in the attached flyer. People can book via https://carersandenergy.eventbrite.co.uk/ – As part of NEA’s funding, they are required to share with their funders the area attendees are from, and so people will need to provide their address when they sign up. This will be securely stored by NEA just for the purpose of their reporting and will not be used to contact anyone.

Respite opportunities for adult siblings

SIBS are delighted to announce a new project to provide a series of respite opportunities for adult siblings who are carers for their brother or sister who is autistic. This research project will be evaluated so that they can assess what respite opportunities work best for this group of siblings. There will be a wellbeing retreat, a self-care project and a discovery course on offer. For more information, visit https://www.sibs.org.uk/support-for-adult-siblings/adult-sibling-respite-project/

Sharing below on behalf of caring together

Good morning,

Caring Together, Centre 33 and Making Space are organising a virtual carers conference aimed at both carers and people who might come into contact with carers on the eve of Carers Rights Day 2022 – Wednesday 23 November 10.00am-5.00pm – There will be standalone sessions throughout the day which people will be able to attend.

Aimed at carers and professionals who might support them (e.g. health and social care, education, employers, community organisations), all of the sessions will be in line with the aim of Carers Rights Day:

  • Ensuring carers and professionals are aware of the rights carers and young carers have.
  • Letting carers and professionals know what help and support is available across the county.
  • Raising awareness of the needs of carers of all ages (including young carers and parent carers).

More details about topics and booking details will follow in the coming weeks.

We are also wanting carers and professionals who might come into contact with carers to help us shape the conference – We are asking for people to vote on what topics they think are the most important at Cambridgeshire virtual carers conference – 23 November 2022 Survey (surveymonkey.co.uk) – this link also gives carers the opportunity to say if they might be interested in helping with any of the planning/delivery of the conference.

We would be really grateful if you could share both the flyer and the poll with any carers or colleagues.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Across the country various groups, organisations and Parent Carer Forums have spent time gathering views and sharing these with The Government in response to their consultation on the SEND Green Paper. We would like to share with you the responses from Family Voice Peterborough Parent Rep Team, and also The Easter Region  Parent Carer Forms, of which FVP is a member.

Butlins Skegness Caravan Park

Please see the following note from Butlins Skegness

“Unfortunately, we have made the decision to ban disposable BBQs on Park, this decision comes after a number of incidents over the past couple of months including a bin fire on the Park recently.

Gas & Electric BBQs are still permitted, and we ask that Owners & Guests take care when using them around your Caravan pitch.

Please ensure that this information is also passed onto your family, friends & guests that will be staying on Park in the future.”

BBQ Use

“Given the prolonged hot weather, we’ve decided to stop selling disposable barbecues in our park shops. We’d like to kindly request you not to use disposable barbecues on site, for your own safety as well as other guests and our team.”

Tips on Water Usage

• Take shorter showers – The average shower uses 10litres of water a minute!

• Use washing up bowls when washing plates etc

• Only fill the kettle with the amount of water you need

• Turn off all taps when not in use

• Do not use any sprinklers/hosepipes

• Be careful with backwashing/topping up of pools and hot tubs

• Repair known water leaks

• Be vigilant for any other leakage and repair asap

The HOPE (Health Outcomes for young People throughout Education) study is investigating the impact of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) provision on health outcomes for children and young people in England. This project is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge and the University College London.

The research team based in Cambridge is led by Professor Tamsin Ford (Psychiatry), Professor Kristine Black-Hawkins (SEND), The team focuses on the Work Package 2, which will investigate who receives SEND provision, when, what type, for how long and the user experiences of this provision at the Local Authority level across England.

For this, the research team has launched three national surveys: one for children and young people with SEND (which takes 10 minutes), one for parents/carers of children and young people with SEND  (which takes 20 minutes) and one for practitioners who work with children who have SEND in any capacity (takes 10 minutes).

The goal of these surveys is to understand the experiences of SEND provision and explore how these vary across England.

A proposal to create a support hub for children and young people with autism and learning difficulties has won government backing.

An Respite Innovation Grant of £1m has been awarded by the Department for Education to set up an Intensive Therapeutic Support Hub which will help young people with challenging behaviours to remain with their family, in their community and at school.

The successful bid was put together by Cambridgeshire County Council, Peterborough City Council and NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, who all form part of the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS).

Campaigners met outside Peterborough Town Hall on Saturday to demand changes in the city centre to make it accessible for people with disabilities.

Supporters of the Peterborough Unlimited campaign joined together in Bridge Street from 12pm to highlight how inaccessible the area is – with issues including moving vehicles, sloped surfaces, a shortage of drop kerbs and large amounts of street furniture – while pushing to get new Changing Places toilets for people with additional needs.

Changing Places toilets go beyond ordinary disabled toilets – they are bigger and include items such as a hoist and changing bench. Without these toilets many disabled adults and families with a young person who has additional needs feel unable to visit the city centre, and either travel to another city or remain isolated at home.

Donations for new Changing Places toilets can be made at: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=SJSDHPJU72CJ4

Sports fans should also follow the campaign’s Facebook page as there will be an exciting announcement later in the week: https://www.facebook.com/PeterboroughUnlimited.

Today sees the launch of the new Integrated Care System (ICS) which formerly replaces Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CPCCG).

NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough is an Integrated Care Board (ICB) and the statutory NHS organisation responsible for planning and delivering local health and care services.

Working collaboratively with partner organisations, including the VCSE sector, it oversees the commissioning, performance, financial management and transformation of the local NHS, as part of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS).
